6 Best WordPress Contact Form Plugins

A contact can be a great way for your audience/customers to be able to reach you. Not only can you avoid a lot of the spam that shows up if you just list your email on your website, you can make a contact form shape their query making it easier for you to understand and respond to. You can also have the form automatically add categories, enabling you to go quickly and easily through the most urgent messages first if needed.

But learning how to create a working contact form that can perform at this level from scratch is a major project for anyone but a professional developer.

That’s, of course, where plugins come in. In this post, we will review 6 of the absolute best WordPress contact form plugins. All these plugins enable you to create an incredibly useful contact form in a couple of minutes.

Contact Form 7

Contact Form 7

  • Spam filter/CAPTCHA: Yes
  • Ability to add/remove/customize fields: Yes
  • Pre-made designs: Yes (from third-party developer.)
  • Shortcode available: Yes
  • Multiple forms? Yes
  • Tutorial/guide/other documentation available? Yes (As well as a lot of third-party guides and tutorials.)

Contact 7 is probably the most popular contact form plugin out there, and for good reason. Beginners or non-technical people might struggle because there is no WYSIWYG editor; you write out the contact forms in a mix of html and shortcode.

The good news is that Contact 7 is highly customizable and there are some perks that come with its popularity as well. There are translations into a staggering amount of languages, and any bugs get picked up on very quickly by other users. A lot of users also means there is a gigantic amount of third-party guides, tutorials and even skins/designs out there.

Jetpack – Contact Form

Jetpack Contact Form

  • Spam filter/CAPTCHA: Yes
  • Ability to add/remove/customize fields: Yes
  • Pre-made designs: No
  • Shortcode available: No (but easily accessible in WYSIWYG editor for posts/pages)
  • Multiple forms? Yes (but no saving)
  • Tutorial/guide/other documentation available? Yes

The contact form part of Jetpack does not offer the most features on here. In fact, it doesn’t even try. The incredible focus on ease of use, and making everything intuitive, makes it pleasant and quick experience, even if you are creating your very first contact form.

There is no objective right answer when it comes to the single best contact form plugin. The reason for that is that different people have different priorities. So if you prioritize ease of use, something without any real learning curve, your favorite will most likely be Jetpack.

One downside with the Jetpack contact form is that there is no integrated way of saving forms, and to easily access them again. You cannot use hidden fields, which can be incredibly useful for integration with any WordPress CRM plugin, or just indicating where contact emails are coming from, so you can distinguish between different websites/different pages on the website.

If you already have Jetpack installed and activated but cannot seem to find the Contact Form functionality, you just have to go to “Jetpack” under the Jetpack, click the ‘View all Jetpack features’ button, and then find Contact Form.

Gravity Forms

Gravity Forms

  • Spam filter/CAPTCHA: Yes
  • Ability to add/remove/customize fields: Yes
  • Pre-made designs: No
  • Shortcode available: Yes
  • Multiple forms? Yes
  • Tutorial/guide/other documentation available? Yes

One of the most popular items on this list, Gravity forms is also one of the most advanced contact form plugin out there. Offering a multitude of pre-set options for form fields, as well as drag-and-drop functionality, you can easily and quickly build complex and visually appealing forms.

You can easily save forms for later editing and use, and you can even easily switch between forms in the editing screen, making it possible to edit two similar forms almost at the same time.

Gravity Forms is a premium plugin, and prices start at a personal license for $39.99. They offer a free demo so you can try and get a feel of exactly what you’re getting before you make the decision to purchase.

Fast Secure Contact Form

Fast secure contact forms

  • Spam filter/CAPTCHA: Yes
  • Ability to add/remove/customize fields: Yes
  • Pre-made designs: Yes (from third-party developer.)
  • Shortcode available: Yes
  • Multiple forms? Yes
  • Tutorial/guide/other documentation available? Yes

Another more complicated plugin that offers a very diverse set of different option for customization. Everything from security options to CSS stylings.

Using this plugin effectively requires at least a basic understanding of HTML and CSS, so it could be labelled as a bit beginner unfriendly. The shortcode functionality makes it incredibly easy to add a finished contact form to any page, post or widget you would like.

Formidable Forms

Formidable Forms

  • Spam filter/CAPTCHA: Yes
  • Ability to add/remove/customize fields: Yes
  • Pre-made designs: Yes
  • Shortcode available: Yes
  • Multiple forms? Yes
  • Tutorial/guide/other documentation available? Yes

Formidable forms are the only plugin reviewed here that has committed wholly to the drag and drop builder functionality.

This does make it a lot easier to grasp for beginners or nontechnical users, meaning that along with Jetpack, it’s probably your best option if you’re not that experienced with WordPress or HTML/CSS yet. But you still want to be able to make customizations and change the way the form will look.

But it doesn’t stop at the drag and drop builder. Formidable forms offer excellent security and spam options, with the possibility for the reCaptcha integration. It also comes with the ability to save all the responses to your WordPress database. So if you were to somehow lose access to your old emails and you wanted to look through customer feedback again, you could do it in WordPress.

Custom Contact Forms

Custom Contact Forms

  • Spam filter/CAPTCHA: Yes
  • Ability to add/remove/customize fields: Yes
  • Pre-made designs: No
  • Shortcode available: Yes
  • Multiple forms? Yes
  • Tutorial/guide/other documentation available? Yes

Custom contact form prides itself on giving you more options for customization than its competitors. Not only that, the developer feels the plugin is also superior to some of the most popular contact form plugins when it comes to ease of use, and how intuitive it is.

Once you’ve already created a form, Custom Contact Forms lets you rearrange the fields easily with a mini-drag-and-drop builder. You can quickly save contact forms to finish later, or for using on multiple pages/posts in the future.

Again the versatility of the plugin can make it a little overwhelming for beginners, only because there are so many different options. If you like the plugins that allow you to micromanage every part of your project, then this plugin is definitely for you.

Things to keep in mind

Even if you have a kick-ass contact form, you make it ask all the right question, and you have a perfect categorization system in place, it doesn’t matter if you don’t read and reply to the emails.

All the plugins listed above offer the ability to use CAPTCHA, and many offer additional spam control, so using one of your more used emails is not as terrible of an idea as you might think. It will make it a lot easier to stay on top of your customers if you’re a one man operation.
